Indian Olympic Medallists - 2024

India first participated at the Olympic Games in 1900, with a lone athlete Norman Pritchard winning two medals – both silver – in athletics and became the first Asian nation to win an Olympic medal.

The nation first sent a team to the Summer Olympic Games in 1920 and has participated in every Summer Games since then. India has also competed at several Winter Olympic Games beginning in 1964. Indian athletes have won 41 medals, all at the Summer Games. For a period of time, the Indian Men's Field Hockey Team was dominant in Olympic competition, winning eleven medals in twelve Olympics between 1928 and 1980.

The run included eight gold medals of which six were won consecutively from 1928 to 1956.

India competed at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, held from 26 July to 11 August 2024. The country made its debut at the 1900 Summer Olympics. Indian athletes have appeared at every edition of the Summer Olympic Games since 1920 and the Paris Games edition marked India's 26th appearance at the Summer Olympics.


Neeraj Chopra

Subedar Major Neeraj Chopra PVSM VSM OLY (born 24 December 1997) is an Indian track and field athlete who competes in the javelin throw. He won the gold medal at the 2020 Olympics, becoming the first Asian athlete to do so at an Olympic event. He is also the first Asian to win the javelin gold in the World Athletics Championships after his win in 2023. Chopra is the first athletics gold medalist for India. As of 2024, he is one of only two Indians to have won an individual Olympic gold medal, the youngest-ever Indian Olympic gold medalist in an individual event and the only individual to have won gold on his Olympic debut. He is one of the five individual multiple medalists for India at the Olympics after his silver medal at the 2024 Olympics. He was the first Indian to win at the World Under-20 Championships, where he achieved a world U20 record throw of 86.48 m in 2016, becoming the first Indian athlete to set a world record in athletics.

Manu Bhaker

Manu Bhaker (born 18 February 2002) is an Indian sport shooter and Olympic medalist. She won two bronze medals at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. She secured a bronze in the women's 10 metre air pistol event, becoming the first female shooter from India to win a medal at any Olympics. Subsequently, she earned another bronze medal in the mixed 10 metre air pistol team event, becoming the first Indian woman to win two medals in a single Olympics. Bhaker won gold at the 2022 Asian Games in the women's 25m pistol team event. She earned her individual gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the women's 10-metre air pistol event, where she set a new Commonwealth Games record.[6] Earlier, she had become the youngest Indian to win a gold at the ISSF World Cup in 2018 at the age of 16.

Sarabjot Singh

Sarabjot Singh (born 30 September 2001) is an Indian sport shooter who specializes in the 10 m air pistol discipline. He is an Olympic medallist, having won a bronze medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event alongside Manu Bhaker. Sarabjot hails from a Ramgaria sikh family of Dheen village of Ambala, Barara block, Haryana. He is the son of Jatinder Singh, a farmer and Hardeep Kaur, a homemaker. He studied at DAV College, Sector 10, Chandigarh. He trains under coach Abhishek Rana at the Ambala Cantt-based AR Shooting Academy in Central Phoenix Club.

Swapnil Kusale

Swapnil Kusale (born 6 August 1995) is an Indian sport shooter who competes in 50 metre rifle three positions. He won the bronze medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in the men's 50 metre rifle three positions event. Kusale was born on 6 August 1995, in Kambalwadi village in Kolhapur district. In 2009, his father enrolled him into Maharashtra government's Krida Prabhodini sports programme. After one year of intense physical training, Kusale had to choose one sport and ended up choosing shooting. In 2015, he became a ticket collector for the Indian Railways in Pune, which helped him buy his first rifle.

Aman Sehrawat

Aman Sehrawat (born 16 July 2003) is an Indian freestyle wrestler who competes in the 57 kg weight category. He is the youngest Indian to win an individual Olympic medal, having secured a bronze medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. He also won a gold medal at the 2022 U23 World Championships and was the 2023 Asian champion. Sehrawat was born in a Hindu Jat family in the village of Birohar, Haryana, where he initially took part in mud wrestling. Inspired by Sushil Kumar's silver medal win in the 2012 Summer Olympics, he enrolled at the Chhatrasal Stadium in North Delhi at the age of 10.He lost both of his parents at the age of 11. His mother died by suicide due to mental health struggles, and his father, a former tractor mechanic turned farmer, passed away a few months later. Following their deaths, Sehrawat and his younger sister, Puja, were taken in by their uncle, Sudhir Sehrawat. Sudhir revealed in an interview with Hindustan Times that Aman struggled with depression and considered drug use after his mother's death. However, his fortunes began to change with his training at Chhatrasal Stadium.
